Born in Hamilton, ON, Canada, David showed an interested in the visual arts starting at the age of 3. His first major influence came during high school when he was introduced to paintings by Rembrandt and Salvador Dali and was enamoured with the idea of creating something as beautiful and meaningful for his career.

First exhibiting at the Art Gallery of Hamilton at the age of 19, David’s career as an Artist has included participation in dozens of shows. He has been on display internationally exhibiting in France, U.S and Canada, as well as private collections in approximately 7 countries. He is currently represented by galleries across Canada. His work has been recognized by his peers in notable competitions and shows including the Oil Painters of America, the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, The Artist Magazine, The Art Renewal Center and the Salt Spring National Prize.

His is noted for his style of Hyper Realism which uses compositions that combine nature with people. Often hiding his subject’s identity, every person becomes unique for their eyes alone, leaving room for the viewer to fill in a story, and appreciate each model regardless of who they are.

Education

The internationally acclaimed artist John Michael Angel started the Academy of Realist Art (ARA) during the 1990’s Resurrection of Realism. The ARA in Toronto has a curriculum that is based on the 19th Century Academy system. This system was made famous by William Bouguereau and requires artists to create works that are extremely accurate to real life. The ARA continues to be the only school in Canada that has the excellent standards established during the period of high Realism in 19th Century Europe, producing artists with a vastly superior understanding and technique of how realistic works are created.
